Math Centers

What a fun way to learn and practice math skills. Today we enjoyed Math Centers as part of our Daily Math routine.

Studies have shown that math centers provide an opportunity for students to practice and apply skills and strategies taught within the classroom. While students are engaged in purposeful centers, we, the teachers have the opportunity to help students, work individually or with a smaller group, to meet the individual needs of students.

The munchkins worked so well, I was really impressed with them.

Kudos to all for working hard, asking questions, lending a hand and winning those awards in IXL math!

I'm so proud of my students! Keep it up!

IXL math

Dear Parents,
I am pleased to tell you that we will be using a website called IXL in our classroom this year. IXL is a comprehensive math review site with an unlimited number of practice questions in hundreds of skills—all of which are aligned to the provincial curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress!
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:
  1. In addition to making math practice exciting, IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The website is adaptive and will adjust to your child's demonstrated ability level. The site also saves all of your child's results, so you can monitor your child's progress anytime by clicking on Reports at the top of the page.Go to www.IXL.com/signin/pierre
  2. Enter your child's username and password and click Sign in
I just sent you an email with your munchkin's username and password :)
  3. Click on Maths at the top of the page and navigate to your child's grade level.
  4. Find a skill to practise by doing one of the following:
    • Select a specific skill to practise from the list of skills. You can place your mouse over any skill to see a sample question and click on the link to begin.
    • Go to the Awards section. Each grade level presents challenges for your child to conquer and virtual prizes to be uncovered. Place your mouse over any challenge to begin.
I hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL daily.
Here's to a year of working together to make math fun for your child!
Sincerely,

Miss Lopez

Another day in class 303

Hi everybody!
I hope you are all doing great!  Can't wait to meet you all on Thursday at Meet the teacher night!  I've received some wonderful emails from some of you!  I know we are going to have an amazing year!
We had a very busy day today.  Miss Maria, our pastoral animator, visited our classroom.  We had a fire drill!  The munchkins did fantastically well by way.   We also met our new librarian: Mme Linda and she gave us a brand new Dr. Seuss bookmark.  What a great day!  Here are a few pictures to show you, and a cute little video so you can hear our beautiful voices!

Our first day in Third Grade

First day in third grade!
Wow, what a first day we had!  The 40 degree weather  didnt stop my new batch of kiddies from working and participating in class!
I was nervous just like everybody is when starting something new and meeting new people.  However, after meeting each and every one of my students I was happy and excited once again.  Weve got some many wonderful activities planned and my students seem to welcome challenges with open arms and smiles!
I am looking forward to a delightful year
Welcome back!

Welcome back!

August 28th, 2013
Dear Parents,
Hello everyone, I hope you had a wonderful and restful summer holiday.  I am Miss Lopez and I will be your childs third grade teacher this year.  I am really looking forward to working with you, and excited to help your child succeed in my class.
Grade three is an exciting year.  Lots of activities have been planned, and fieldtrips as well! You will find third grade is more demanding and requires more responsibility than second grade.  I have no doubt that you will welcome these challenges with open arms!  You will also find third grade offers exciting and rewarding opportunities for your child to grow.  I have been planning for this year all summer and I am very happy we are finally starting this adventure!
Please feel free to call me at PDC or email me whenever you have a concern at mc_lopez2003@yahoo.ca.  The sooner we discuss a problem, the sooner it can be solved.  We both share a deep concern for your childs welfare and development.
Make sure you bookmark our classroom blog and visit it frequently for any announcements, important messages and impromptu pictures.
I am looking forward to an exciting school year!

Sincerely,
Miss Lopez
