Multiplication Madness

"Uh oh!  I forgot my multiplication facts Miss Lopez."

This is a phrase that I am hearing from the children too often for comfort these days.  The children should be reviewing their basic multiplication facts at home.  We are working on multiplying 2 and 3-digit numbers by 1 and 2-digit numbers.

Say what?!

We will be calculating equations like:
  • 26 x 9 = _____
  • 902 x 5 = _____
  • 62 x 29 = _____
  • 366 x 12 = _____
We have also been working on multiplying by multiples of 10, 100 and 1000.

The children have comprehensive notes in the Math Notes and IXL Math would be a fantastic site for them to practice these skills.  All the passwords and log-ins were emailed to you at the beginning of October.  If you have not received it, accidentally deleted it, or had it shunted to junk mail, please email me and I will be more than happy to resend them.

Together, we will create multiplication experts.  Let's do it!
Have a great day,
Miss Lopez

Let's spell it!

Hello everyone!
I came across this website that has amazing ideas on how to practice our spelling lessons and dictées also!
I know that we have to memorize all of these words and sometimes there is no other way :(
How about studying in a way that is fun and doesn't seem like work?!

Here is the link....

PLM

We are starting PLM (Programme de lecture à la maison) in class 403 today

Every month the students will have to choose a novel from the PLM novels I have selected.  After they finish reading these novels, the students will have to complete a small booklet of activities made for this novel.  There will be many different activities for the students to complete (ex. Grammar, spelling, etc.) to make sure they understood the novel.  The students will have to return their P. L. M. duo-tang as well as the novel at the end of every month with all the activities completed.
Research has shown that the more books children read the better writers they become.  Let’s encourage this habit.

IXL Math

                                                                                                October 3rd, 2012

Dear 403 Parents,

I am pleased to tell you that we will be using a website called IXL in our classroom this year. IXL is a comprehensive math practice site with an unlimited number of math practice questions in hundreds of skills — all of which are aligned to the provincial curriculum. One of the best things about IXL is that your child can access it from home, so you have a chance to see your child's progress!
To get your child started on your home computer, please follow these easy steps:

1. Go to www.IXL.com/signin/pierre. https://ca.ixl.com/signin/pierre

2. Enter your child's username and password and click Sign in. (I will send your Username and Password shortly via email☺)
Username ______________________________

Password ______________________________

3. Navigate to your child's grade level.
4. Find a skill to practice by doing one of the following:
• Select a specific skill to practice from the list of skills. You can place your mouse over any skill to see a sample question and click on the link to begin.
• Click on the Awards tab.
Each grade level has an embedded game board with challenges for your child to conquer and virtual prizes to be uncovered. Place your mouse over any challenge to begin.

In addition to making math practice exciting, IXL is designed to help your child learn at his or her own pace. The website is adaptive and will adjust to your child's demonstrated ability level. The site also saves all of your child's results, so you can monitor your child's progress anytime by clicking on the Reports tab.
I hope you'll encourage your son or daughter to use IXL daily.

Here's to a year of working together to make math fun for your child!

Sincerely,

Miss Lopez

Welcoming Activity

Hello everyone!
Just a quick hello to all the parents...
It has been a sauna in our classrooms but your munchkins are troopers!  They are coping really well with this heat wave!
If you would like to donate fans or air conditioners ( :) ) we will gladly accept them!
Wednesday, September 12th is our welcoming activity day.  For this activity the students in class 403 need to wear a blue shirt .
Looking forward to seeing you on Parent's night.
Have a great week-end!
Miss Lopez
