We are Bucket Fillers

Bucket filling is a method we are using in our classroom to encourage our students to consider how their words and actions affect others.

We believe that the bucket-fillers system will help:
  • to create more rewarding lives and positive culture as we increase kindness, respect, and courtesy.
  • to decrease mean-spiritedness and negativity
  • to teach us how to keep your bucket filled by understanding and rising above occasional bucket-dipping situations.

We introduced this amazing concept to our students today by listening to the story:

How full is your bucket? For kids by Tom Rath and Mary Reckmeyer

After we read the book, we had a discussion clarifying how bucket fillers and the bucket dippers behave. We sorted these as a class and we made lists in our journals.

We made checklists in our journals of these two concept also, we signed a pledge and we sang our chant:

We also made our ID’s that show we are Official Members of the Bucket Filling Brigade!
We have our little buckets in the classroom and whenever we see a classmate filling someone’s "imaginary" bucket we will make sure we write that action down and place it in the student’s bucket!

Bucket filling has made a huge difference in many classrooms around the world.
We want to make a difference in our classrooms and in our communities as well!
